I am at Capacity.

I’ve got what you need - and it isn’t just “take a bath” or “read a book”

But seriously - the world is a different place than it was just a few weeks ago and this quarantine has been...interesting. #AmIRight

I feel like I’ve lived an entire DECADE in the past three weeks. How about you?

Today I was ALMOST hitting my limit and I jumped into a group text with some of my besties and told them I thought today was the day.  They brought up a topic and I am now COMPLETELY OBSESSED so I’m sharing with YOU.

“I am at capacity”

In this chaotic time where we think we can’t do all the things because we don’t have enough TIME in our days I want to challenge you to accept this “I am at capacity” mindset.

Since this pandemic and quarantine started the term “self-care” has been thrown around like confetti and I’m about to get REAL honest with you.

If one more person tells me to use this time to “Take a relaxing bath,” “Clean out my closets and junk drawers” or the best one “Learn a new language”  - I AM GOING TO LOSE MY SHIT.

I am not finding the time to do MORE, I’m actually feeling like I’ve NEVER had LESS time for myself and that is just the current situation. Legit, there is nothing we can do about it.

Our kids are home. We’re now wearing the mom hat, the teacher hat all while still trying to be a good employee.  I mean my daily “break time” is peeing and that isn’t usually alone. #MomLife

What if you can’t relate because you live alone and you’re feeling like you haven’t had a human face-to-face in days and are actually scared about what a few more weeks of isolation will do to your mental health.

Maybe you're an essential employee and you’re busting your ass trying to save the people who won’t stay the F home (sorry tangent).

WHEREVER you are. I want you to know it’s ok to feel however YOU are feeling.

Your feelings are valid and we are ALL experiencing more stress than normal and honestly, it’s our common ground.

The downside - stress can affect your gut health and, in turn, both your immune system and your mental health.  Know what that means? A decreased ability to handle stress. Yup. Awesome right?

So what should we do?

I want you to take a few minutes to look at your day.  What are the things that NEED to happen - a prioritization of sorts.  And this includes the necessities that come along with those new hats you are wearing.

Now HERE IS the differentiator.

NECESSITIES does NOT mean being the BEST homeschooling teacher, having your house so clean you could eat off the floors or even working for Employee of the month.  (remember all you overachievers... this is only temporary).

Scaling it back a little and the time that's left in your day (I promise there is a little) THAT’s WHERE the Self Care comes in because honestly Self Care has never been more important than it is RIGHT NOW.

You CAN choose YOU.  You CAN CHOOSE to take care of yourself even in this chaos.  It will release a little stress and allow you to do what you NEED to do and MORE of what you actually ENJOY doing instead of what you THINK you should do #KeepingUpWithTheJoneses

It’s a fine balance and when that balance is skewed that's when I know I start feeling that tightness in my chest.  I can literally feel my anxiety setting in. It comes with feelings of being overwhelmed, behind in every aspect, SCARED of the future and 100% AT CAPACITY.

So to bring it full circle - we MAY have time, but in this new normal our priorities and needs have shifted and we have to be ok with the fact that acknowledging we’re at capacity is OK.

For me that means sometimes I can’t finish the lesson plans.  Sometimes it’s a movie day. Sometimes we have ice cream for lunch and sometimes I put them to bed before 7 (JUDGE ME!)

I have also started getting my workout in before the day kicks off.  I wake up to my little human alarm clock and instead of cuddling after our nursing session I get my sweat on before the other two wake up!

Moving is a priority to me.  It is my medicine and it sets the tone for my day.

If you want some assistance in the working out at home with the kids department head on over to my blog from last month HERE!

At the end of the day we’re in uncharted territory but we need to release a little stress and you must allow yourself to do what you NEED to do and less of what you THINK you should do.

Stay safe AND sane my friends,

Becky
