My Content Creation Rules I Swear By

When it comes to creating content for social media, the ultimate goal should to be authentic, provide value, and turn viewers into loyal customers BUT achieving that balance isn’t always easy—especially when you’re trying to stand out in a sea of content creators. It can sometimes feel like yelling into an abyss - #AmIRight

Over the years, I’ve developed a set of non-negotiable rules that guide my process for creating content that resonates, engages, and ultimately converts. Whether you’re a seasoned social media pro or just getting started, these principles will help you create content that allows you to show up, stand out and eventually SELL OUT!

Here are the six rules I live by when creating content:

1. Always Lead with Value

Your audience isn’t scrolling to be sold to—they’re looking for something that helps them. Every piece of content should either:

  • Teach them something useful.

  • Make them laugh or feel seen.

  • Inspire them to take action.

Ask yourself: “What’s in it for them?” When you focus on their needs, your audience naturally connects with you and your brand.

2. Speak Like a Human, Not a Salesperson

Social media is about connection, not corporate-speak. Ditch the jargon and write captions like you’re chatting with a friend over coffee.

  • Use conversational language.

  • Add a bit of personality—be funny, witty, or quirky (whatever feels true to YOU).

  • Be honest and transparent—it builds trust.

People connect with people, not perfection.

3. Stories Sell, Features Don’t

People buy from emotions, not a list of features. Use storytelling to highlight:

  • Real-life transformations (yours or your clients').

  • Behind-the-scenes of your process or struggles.

  • Relatable moments your audience can see themselves in.

Stories create emotional connections that make people say, “Wow, this person gets me.”

4. Consistency Builds Trust

Posting sporadically or disappearing for weeks sends the wrong message. Show up consistently to stay top of mind and build credibility.

  • Create a posting schedule that’s sustainable for YOU (quality > quantity).

  • Repeat your core messages—people need to hear things multiple times to take action.

  • Stay on-brand with your tone and visuals to create a cohesive identity.

Trust is the foundation of conversions.

5. Don’t Be Afraid to Be DIFFERENT

Not everyone will resonate with your content—and that’s a GOOD thing. Stand firm in your beliefs and values to attract your ideal audience.

  • Don’t water down your message to appeal to everyone.

  • Share your unique perspective, even if it’s bold.

  • Be authentic, even if it means losing followers who aren’t aligned.

The people who love what you stand for will become your most loyal followers and customers.

6. Always Include a Clear Call-to-Action (CTA)

Even the most engaging post won’t convert without a clear next step. Every piece of content should guide your audience toward something specific:

  • “Save this post for later.”

  • “Click the link in my bio to learn more.”

  • “DM me to chat about how I can help your business.”

Make it easy for them to take the next step—whether that’s engaging with your post or buying from you.

Final Thoughts

Creating authentic, engaging content that converts isn’t about following trends or trying to please everyone. It’s about knowing your audience, showing up as your true self, and consistently providing value. By following these six rules, you’ll not only build a loyal and engaged community but also create content that inspires action and drives real results.

Which of these rules resonates with you the most? I’d love to hear your thoughts—share them in the comments or connect with me directly. Let’s make some social media magic!
